Planning officer

From planning officers to teaching, from social services to environmental experts, we have a diverse range of roles across Dorset.

Visit the Local Government careers site - this site will provide all of the information you need about the wide range of career opportunities local councils offer

Equality and diversity

We are committed to ensuring that all employees and job applicants are provided with equality of opportunity in employment. This commitment is reflected in our employment policies and practices, recognising the provision of equal opportunities as a matter of good management practice.

The aim is to promote equality of opportunity so that no employee or job applicant will be subject to unlawful or unfair discrimination on the grounds of gender, age, marital status, colour, race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, offending background, membership or non-membership of a trade union or political beliefs.

If you would like further information on our policies, please contact the relevant council.

Positive about disabled people

This scheme aims to help you overcome barriers when seeking employment and training if you are living with a disability. We are committed to removing these barriers.

In order to qualify for the accreditation each Council has had to undergo a series of evaluations that look at their facilities, staff support mechanisms and internal review systems, to ensure they meet the necessary requirements. Councils have to re-evidence their commitment to the scheme annually through Jobcentre Plus.

Christchurch Borough Council, East Dorset District Council and Dorset County Council have signed up to the five commitments to being Positive about Disabled People, which are:

• To interview all disabled applicants for a vacancy if they meet the minimum essential criteria

• To make sure that if a current employee becomes disabled we do our best to keep them in work

• To make sure that we discuss with disabled employees what can be done to help them develop their abilities

• To raise the level of disability awareness in our staff

• To monitor any changes we put in place and to come up with improvements for the future

Special interview arrangements to accommodate a disability can be noted on your application form and will be confirmed prior to an interview.
